Get ready to scream! High School Musical 3: Senior Year is officially in theaters. It’s 112 minutes of singing, dancing, drama, basketball and of course cutie Zac Efron. Think you’ve already seen the entire movie through previews? Think again. Almost every clip of the trailers happens in the first 10 minutes, leaving you more than 100 minutes to be surprised by what’s in store.
Movie goers, young and old, agree that this one is the best of the three – quiet an accomplishment considering most series tend to get worse with time. HSM3 is beyond a doubt the one you’ll all want to own. As one grade school kid claimed the third was the best adding, “The first one is historical. It is going to be in our kid’s history books!” We’re not sure about that, but we do agree HSM is a force!
Don’t be surprised if the audience screams as the movie opens to the face of Troy Bolton. (They’ll also collectively sigh at a scene where he pulls off his shirt to put on his basketball uniform.) The Wildcats are about the lose the state championship game and Troy is not happy about that. It typical Wildcats flare they pull together, pull through and win.
As Seniors, they are now forced to look ahead at their future plans and ambitions. Troy needs to figure out what he wants out of life and if that differs from his dad’s plan. Gabriella Montez (played of course by Vanessa Hudgens) is set to go to Stanford. But when she gets an opportunity to leave high school early to head off to Stanford with a select number of incoming freshmen for an early introduction to college, her relationship with Troy is put to the test.
Through it all of course, they are planning for the prom, and putting on the school musical, which is composed of all original songs and dances about their life in high school. Sharpay Evans is still looking for an opportunity to steal the show. But Ryan Evans has made real friends with the Wildcats and eagerly helps them pull off an amazing show. Kelsi Nielsen composes all the songs, performing them on her piano.
The climax comes in the last ten minutes of the movie, when a scholarship to Julliard is awarded to two students who excelled in the musical, and Troy must make a decision that could potentially hurt his dad, his team members, or Gabriella. You’ll have to see it to figure out who he picks and where he decides to go to school.
Get ready, because whether you like HSM3 best of all or it just ranks in the top three, you are going to walk out of the theater wanting to dance and sing just like Troy, Ryan, Gabriella and Sharpay. Now, we can’t wait for Hairspray 2!
