Did you catch the VMAs last night on MTV? The award show that is best known for some of its completely outrageous performances was comparatively tame this year. Russell Brand, this year’s host, was rude, crude and really not that funny – at all. One thing that came to light through his long rants was the fact that the Jonas Brothers all wear promise rings. They’ve promised not to have sex before marriage and wear the rings as a reminder of that promise.

This fact was something Brand found laughable, trying to get a number of jokes out of it as the night progressed. But the audience, gratefully, wasn’t into laughing at a promise made so seriously. After the show a number of celebrities spoke up defending Nick, Joe and Kevin; Jordin Sparks (who wears one too) and even Paris Hilton.

Sparks was quoted as saying, “”I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everybody — guy or girl — wants to be a slut.”

More power to the Jonas Brothers (and Sparks) for their commitments and lucky the girl who marries one of those boys.
