Have you heard of the Haister and Caister Didja Know Show on YouTube? If you are one of those girls who devours fun facts and loves to little talking points on a variety of subjects this is the show for you. Hannah and Cailin Loesch, 12-year-old twins, produce the show, which updates about once a week. The girls also have a Twitter account – which is how we first heard about them. (@twinswholaugh)

Hannah and Cailin took time to answer our questions about the show and their plans for the future. Here’s what they had to say:

RelateMag.com: Where did the idea for your YouTube channel come from?

H&C: We were really excited to get Flip camcorders for Christmas. We wanted to download some videos to YouTube. Our parents said that if we came up with an idea that would be age appropriate, and of some real value, we could do it.

When we were 5 years old, we had a metal box that we called our research box. (We know it sounds bizarre, but we did). We used to research animals, Lochness monster, Helen Keller, all kinds of topics, we printed out facts and pictures, and put them in our box.

We never actually did anything with the things in the box except look through them. We still have the box in our basement!  Well, that interest in random facts has stayed with us. We decided a show about random facts, done in a way that kids our age would find fun, would be cool.

We asked our parents if this idea was O.K with them, they gave their approval, and the Haister Caister Didja Know show was born!

RelateMag.com: Where do the names Haister and Caister come from?

H&C: We cannot remember exactly who started it, but it is what our crazy friends call us!  We are lucky to have some really wonderful friends!

RelateMag.com: How long have you been using YouTube?

H&C: Our parents would let us watch some videos with them when we were younger. When we got our cameras we started doing our own videos . Our mom really closely watches what we do on the internet. You have to be really careful with it. That is why we wanted to do a show that parents could feel totally comfortable letting their families watch.

RelateMag.com: How do you decide what to vlog about?

H&C: We choose topics that are interesting to us, and hope other kids will find them interesting also. Because of our interest in facts for many years, we have many books to research. Of course we use the internet to research as well!

RelateMag.com: How long does it take you to film, edit your videos?

H&C: From start to finish we usually research facts for a couple days, and then write our script and edit. Maybe a week from start to finish. We do all of these things on our own, and have to do them around school schedules, sports, etc: so sometimes it is longer, sometimes shorter.

RelateMag.com: Who films your videos?

H&C: Sometimes our Mom, sometimes our Dad. Whoever we can talk into it! In the beginning we just passed the camera back and forth, but we think it made the viewers dizzy! We are saving for a full sized tripod and hoping to get a green screen someday!

RelateMag.com: What are some of the upcoming topics you are working on?

H&C: This weekend we are going out into our neighborhood to do a cleanup. We thought we would film that and throw in some nature facts while we’re at it. Cailin has been working on some really interesting shark facts, so a sea creature video is also in the making. We will be taking some trips soon, and will be filming some episodes of our adventures as well.

RelateMag.com: Where do you think the Haister and Caister show will be in 5 years?

H&C: We really do not know what could happen with it. We are just concentrating on doing what we do and enjoying it. We are just really happy that we have heard from so many people saying that they are enjoying it too. Learning really can be fun…

RelateMag.com: What do you want to be when you grow up?

H&C: For as long as we can remember we have both wanted to be vets. Acting is pretty fun though!  Who knows?

RelateMag.com: Who is/are your role model(s)?

H&C: So many people have done amazing things that we admire. Jane Goodall, for her animal rights work. Terri Irwin for her commitment to helping animals. On a different level, Jennette McCurdy for making us laugh, and seeming to be a normal  teen in Hollywood (who is an amazing singer too)! And our parents, for teaching us that you can have fun while learning!

RelateMag.com: In your videos and on Twitter you post Didja Know facts – where do you find these?

H&C: We devour books, and the internet, searching for fun and interesting facts. The average child will eat 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by the time they graduate from high school. Didja Know?
