In every aspect of life, especially college, setting goals is a must. They help you figure out what’s important and set you on the path to getting there. Whether you’re setting short term goals or long terms ones, decide what you want to see in your future and set your mind to getting it. A short term goal of acing a quiz or a long term goals of being accepted to your favorite university are both important. Having goals will keep you moving forward because you know where you need to be and you have an idea of what you need to do to get there.

Your short term goals could be stepping stones to helping you achieve your long term goal or they could be completely unrelated. Either way, having both is important. Talk to your parents, peers and other people you look up to who can help you with setting your goals. Others’ opinions may not go along with what you had in mind, but you can always take what they are saying and apply it the way you want to.

The most important part about setting goals is rewarding yourself when you achieve them. After you ace that test, take yourself out for dessert, or buy those cute shoes you’ve had your eye on! The rewards will keep you motivated to achieving all the goals you set for yourself. When you reach your goal, make sure you have more waiting for the next steps in life. Keep a positive outlook on life even when things are tough and remember those goal are there to help guide you along your way to success!
