I don’t want to start my first blog post off with a negative tone. But I’m sure you’ve all seen and heard the media blasts with the latest, up to date information about the swine flu.

Frankly, I’m tired of hearing about it. It’s not that I’m unsympathetic. This situation is serious and like many other big stories, the media is blowing it up. Something you may be interested to know the median age of those with the virus in the US is 16.  Here are a few things to keep in mind, including don’t panic!

*As of May 1st there are 141 confirmed cases in the US.

*The strain is now being called H1N1.

*The median age of those who have the virus is 16, patient range from ages 7 to 54.

*The World Health Organization said most of the cases are from travelers who recently visited Mexico.

*There are medicines to treat this flu and millions of anti-viral drugs are being distributed throughout the US, in case of a pandemic.

*Don’t panic or change your plans drastically.  Be cautious.  Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, like you always should to avoid getting sick.

*Friday President Obama said he is optimistic that we can manage this effectively.
