Earlier this week, my parish priest spoke to our young adult group about the Lord’s Prayer. He focused on one line in particular, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
The Lord’s Prayer is one of the common threads within the thousands of branches of Christianity. Yet it can become so habitual that we often say the prayer without really saying the prayer. When said slowly and solemnly, this prayer can become so much more.
How do we get our ‘daily’ bread? We discussed various ways including prayer, Bible readings, acts of kindness, charity, forgiveness, love, etc. The next time you pray the Lord’s Prayer, pause after each line and truly recite each line with meaning. Ask yourself, what does ‘thy will be done’ or ‘forgive us our trespasses’ truly mean in your life right now?
