How to Make an Adorable Ribbon Key Chain

Written by Andrea Little, Relate Contributing Writer

Lately, my keys have been looking a little blah. All my key chains seem to break, and there is nothing colorful about the unlock button! I have recently come across initial key chains that have swirly ribbons on them and come in all kinds of different colors and designs. Want to know more? Here is how you can get your own!

You will only need a few things and it is your decision about what colors and designs you use! It is better to make the colors on the ribbons match, such as zebra print larger ribbon and a smaller pink ribbon with pink permanent marker.

  • Metal key ring
  • Ribbon, at least 6 inches long and 1 ½ to 2 inches wide
  • Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks
  • Thin piece of ribbon (ideally a color that matches your other ribbon)
  • A permanent marker of any color
  • Scissors

STEP ONE: First, you have to wrap the ribbon through the inside of the key ring and wait till the glue gun is ready. Simply hot glue one side of the ribbon to the other to make a loop.

STEP TWO: Take the thinner piece of ribbon and wrap it around the top of the first ribbon and tie in a thin knot. You do not have to add the thinner piece of ribbon; it is what you want to do and how you want to decorate it.

STEP THREE: Take your scissors and drag across the thinner ribbon to make it curl at the ends. You can do this, or choose not to.

STEP FOUR: In cursive, write the first letter of your first or last name on the bigger ribbon! You can get your mom to help with this, or you could draw a symbol on it, whatever you want!
