2009 is finally coming to an end! Kiss the Christmas stress and tearful year goodbye. If you’re down in the dumps, feel smelly and hopeless, it’s time to start fresh! Make 2010 YOUR year to take healthy and happy initiative to make you the YOU you’ve always wanted!

Of course, we all receive a chance each year to start over, fix what we don’t love about ourselves, and see how long it lasts. On average? Only a couple months.

The most popular resolution is weight loss followed by breaking habits like smoking, followed by getting out of debt.

These are great resolutions, and problems which should be tended to right away. Most think, “What better way to tackle them than by taking care of all of it this New Year’s?”

The idea sounds legit. But serious change calls for serious action. Would you say it’s realistic to lose 10 pounds, quit smoking and pay mom back for overusing her credit card—all at the stroke of midnight?

According to statistics, college campuses find their athletic facilities packed the month of January—why not when February rolls around?

Oftentimes, we try to change too much about ourselves all at once, all too quickly.

But when you love something or someone, you go to great lengths to do everything right, right? Loving YOU calls for the same medicine. Do things right this year—give those resolutions some TLC. Make this year your goal to make realistic resolutions for yourself and make them stick—FOREVER. Small change may not seem impactful, but it will go a long way.

This New Year’s, start small. Next year, you can focus on something different. Small change builds high dollars. Make yourself worth it, each and every year!

If you want to make it your goal to be fit this year, start by cutting back on some of your fatty fixes. What healthy foods do you love? For a snack, eat your favorite fruit instead of a brownie. Do you love tons of sugar in your coffee? Only treat yourself to sugar on occasion. Moderation is the key. In time, you will build yourself up to where you would like to be.

Is another goal of yours saying goodbye to a bad habit? Go easy. Start slow. Ask for help. Sometimes habits are harder to break without support. Long-term goals are not realistically reached overnight. New Year’s is simply a place to start- (not a place to end and quit after the first month!)

Just remember- once you’ve started, finish strong. There’s nothing better than to feel a sense of love for you after a long-term accomplishment!

Not happy? Make changes—small steps at a time.
