Teen bedrooms and dorms get a bad rap: they’re known as cluttered, smelly and just all-around filthy. Beat the stereotype by beating the stench this holiday season, and add these attractive scent-providers to your Christmas wish list.

Candles are obsolete, weak and hazardous, which is why we’ve decided to spread the word on alternative options for your unscented space.

Lampe Berger:

This French-inspired fragrance piece may sound complicated, but its basic components resemble that of an oil lamp. It’s comprised of an attractive glass bottle (lamp), a large wick, a metal camp and scent dispenser, and a wide array of separately sold basic and designer fragrance oils. Although this is the most expensive of all provided options, it also presents the most bang for your buck. The oil not only lasts, but also goes a long way. For example, letting the flameless wick slowly burn for half an hour provides at least a day’s worth of scent (depending on the size of your space). The fragrance is strong and lingers, so love the scented oil you choose to dispense. Each lamp comes with instructions, so make sure you read carefully before using – after all, you are temporarily dealing with an open flame.

Incense:

There’s a reason this item is also an icon of the cultural past. Its unmistakable aroma and cheap, cheap, cheap pricing makes it a must-have for any student on a budget. Incense is manufactured in a variety of scents and delivers many options for attractive holders. And before the word “hippie” passes through your head, break the cliché and give these scented sticks a try. You won’t be disappointed. To release aroma, place in stand, light the thick end’s tip for approximately ten seconds, extinguish, and let the scented smoke fill the room.

Outlined above is a bit more expensive option, but also a second on-the-cheap way to boost your space’s aromatic beauty. After all, scent is the strongest sense that triggers human memory. How will you be remembered?
