Craving a huge heaping of donuts? Hamburgers? A little pasta and meatballs?
Well, “Prepare to get served,” as the film’s tag line says. Based on Ron and Judi Barrett’s beloved children’s book, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs focuses on the story of a young inventor named Flint Lockwood who creates this crazy machine that can actually be programmed to rain, sprinkle or storm any food he chooses. As the town begins to realize their personal gains from this, especially the glutenous mayor, demand becomes higher and higher and Flint’s face begins to flood news channels.
Our main character is so socially awkward, yet so genuine and funny that we have to love him. (His silly pet laboratory monkey doesn’t hurt his image, either.) All he wants is for people to like him, so he’ll go to any lengths to ensure it stays that way…which leads to the largest meteorological disaster ever imagined by man! And we see this theme throughout the whole film with the Scary Movie Series’ Anna Faris playing the insecure reporter Sam Sparks, who is deathly afraid to appear smart. Both weird and somewhat eccentric, Flint and Ana figure out together that doing what they want is the only way to be truly happy.

Flint’s hilarious and awkward pick-up lines toward the perky reporter, as well as his whole “Me too, but about you,” line is so priceless!
It’s one of the most ridiculous movies you can imagine because it’s so “out there,” but it speaks to the childhood dreams in all of us. Who didn’t want their backyard raining with ice cream when they were 10 years old….or even now!
If you didn’t see it in theaters, go rent it when it comes out!
