Most people think of luxurious places when they think about traveling, places like Europe or vacation resorts. Traveling to third world countries, though, can prove to be inspirational and enlightening. A great opportunity is given through the DDK Tours organization.
DDK Tours is offering an excursion to South Africa starting November 3rd through November 14th. This is an educational and historical tour of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The tour is for all ages and is designed to fit your schedule. The program costs $3,650 and a nonrefundable $200 deposit is needed to reserve your seat. According to the ad, the cost includes all of the following: : round-trip air travel from Atlanta to Washington Dulles to Johannesburg to Durban to Cape Town and back. It also includes:
- 10-night hotel accommodations (double occupancy),
- daily breakfast
- one group lunch
- welcome and departure group dinner
- ground transportation (per itinerary)
- admission fees (per itinerary)
- tour booklet
- airport taxes
- transfer fees and fuel surcharge
- baggage handling, honorariums and local tour guides
DDK Tours are led by certified Kingian nonviolent trainers and give insight into the Kingian nonviolence philosophy. The tours are based in South Africa because there is much to be learned from the history of violence in the country. Participants will also learn how problems in South Africa connect with the United States and understand the knowledge of youth leaders in regard to common issues.
Highlights of the tour include the “Cradle of Humankind,” also known as the Sterkfontein Caves, the famous “Soweta Township,” the birthplace of Shaka Zulu and learning about the Zulu culture, dialogue with African activists who helped change conditions in South Africa, the Apartheid Museum, Robben Island, site of the prison cell of President Nelson Mandela, a Mobile Safari and “Cape Point” where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. And you will also enjoy African shopping, dancing and food.

If traveling is a passion of yours or you like to learn about different cultures and histories, then this is a tour for you to consider. Not only do you learn about the country, the culture and the history, but you get a chance to learn about the people and how they make a difference in the country. This may inspire you to have the same effect in your own country and stop violence between different groups of people. This is a wonderful opportunity if you’re looking for something to believe in or something to inspire you. Let knowledge change you.
