Men’s jeans tend to fall into one of two categories- workwear and fashion wear, although there is some crossover. Work wear tends to be looser and more comfortable to wear for long periods, but if you are looking for something to wear on a night out, you may want to wear something a little tighter.

Keep your mind open, as you will never know if a particular style suits your body type until you try them. Try on lots of different pairs, as you might be pleasantly surprised by a style of jeans that you might not have previously considered.

Comfort is all-important. Before you buy a pair of jeans, you should check to see if they are comfortable to walk around, sit, and bend down in. If they are not, leave them in the shop, as you will probably never wear them.

Your body shape has a large bearing on the type of jeans that will suit you best. If you want to accentuate the slimness of your legs, you might want to consider straight or skinny jeans, but if you have a curvier figure, these may not be the best choice.

If you have broad shoulders or big feet, skinny jeans can overemphasise this fact. In this situation, flares and boot cut jeans can balance out your proportions for a more flattering effect.

Your height can also be a factor. Skinny jeans can make you look taller, but if you are already very tall, you might suit boot cut, flared, or loose fitting jeans better.

Some jean brands only produce jeans of one length, so you may have to get them shortened by a tailor. This is not usually that expensive, so do not be put off if you find a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly in every way apart from the length.
