After the nightmarish earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th, people all over the world have come together to support those whose lives have been devastated. Recently, Hollywood’s most famous faces have stepped up to raise money and awareness for this important cause. Yellow, blue and red ribbons were seen all over the Red Carpet on stars such as Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz. Ben Stiller, Scarlett Johansson, Susan Sarandon, and Snoop Dogg appeared on CNN’s Larry King and raised almost $5 million for UNICEF.
But the biggest fundraising event is yet to come. George Clooney, Wyclef Jean and Anderson Cooper are set to host Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief Friday, January 22nd. The telethon will air on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT, along PBS, TNT, Showtime, Comedy Central, Bravo, E! Entertainment, the National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, G4, CENTRIC, Current TV, Fuse, MLB Network, EPIX, Palladia, SoapNet, Style, Discovery Health and Planet Green. The two hour event will start at 8 p.m. Friday.
There is a long list of musicians set to perform, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Madonna. According to the New York Times, Judy McGrath, the chairman and chief executive of MTV Networks, said, “We’re just trying to give people an opportunity to come together and step up. These organizations need money to mobilize support and we have to do it.”

But it’s not just movie stars who can help. When asked how young people can help with this cause, George Clooney, one of the famous hosts, said, “This is about compassion. There are times in our lives when people are really without help and in real danger, and this is one of those times. So whatever they can do — give money to one of the organizations that they like the best.”
