What would you do if you could hear anything anyone had to say about you? Would you think that it was a great talent? Would you feel it was a burden? Or…. Would you think that you were crazy? Personally, I would think that I had gone crazy. But maybe in the long run we would think it was a blessing just to know who our real friends are.

“Claim to Fame” – Lindsay Scott used to be a child star. But at the age of 11, she started to be able to hear what people said about her and it was not all good, even when they were miles away. Soon Lindsay had to drop out of the public eye. Many people just figured that she had a nervous break down. Now at 16 years old, Lindsay has to deal with hearing about what people say about her when a tabloid prints untrue information. This triggers her kidnapping. Why would someone want to kidnap her? Does she have to worry about the kidnappers? Will they learn all of her secrets? Are there other people out there who can also hear what people say about them?

I would have to say that Margaret Peterson Haddix’s new book “Claim to Fame” is one of the best books I have read lately. From the first chapter, I was drawn into the book to personally become the main character of Lindsay. Normally it would take three or more chapters to get to the first twist, and with this book the first one came within the first chapter. It moves the story along faster. I had trouble putting this book down when I had something else that beckoned my attention. I didn’t want this book to end, but when it did I didn’t want to pick up another because I wanted the feeling the book gave me to last. I can’twait to read more of Margaret Peterson Haddix’s books. My daughter has already been making a list of her books I need to read.
This book it geared towards 9 to 12-year-olds, but even if you are old you would enjoy this book.
Happy reading.
