If you haven’t heard by now, Alice in Wonderland is returning to the theaters in March, accompanied by a rocking soundtrack that will drop on March 2. Not a fan of the original Disney movie? That’s okay, because this time Disney Pictures teamed up with Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Not only is the movie in 3D, but Alice is returning not as a little girl, but as a nineteen-year-old, to the enchanting world she had visited as a child. Alice revisits the magical land to discover her purpose and put a stop to the Red Queen’s evil tyranny.
As for the album, 3OH!3 collaborated with Neon Hitch for an upbeat song called “Follow Me Down.”
If this song doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, check your pulse. And the lyrics make you think of Alice and her adventures as you are repeatedly beckoned to follow and see all that is in store. Visit here to get a preview of this song.
Avril Lavigne returns to the music scene with the first single from the album appropriately titled, “Alice.” Avril holds the notes on this song and puts herself in Alice’s place, making the listener feel her pain but uplifted at the same time as she sings, “I’ll get by, I’ll survive,” and “I will turn myself around, don’t you try to stop me.”
Other great bands to contribute to this soundtrack include Plain White T’s, All American Rejects, Owl City, the two Germans known as Tokio Hoteland All Time Low. Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 and Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy collaborated to write a song called, “In Transit.” The bands Shinedown and Wolfmother provided rockier tunes full of Alice in Wonderland fun, based on some of the most recognizable literary characters ever.
And while Grace Potter and the Nocturnals redid the Jefferson Airplane song“White Rabbit,” the only song to appear on this soundtrack that was also on the 1951 version appears courtesy of Robert Smith (The Cure). He redid “Very Good Advice,” which was originally done by a Kathryn Beaumont, who at 10 years old provided not only the voice of Alice, but with her long blonde curls was also chosen as a model for Alice. While Robert didn’t serve as the model for any characters in this movie, especially Alice, the song seems to fit him very well.
Motion City Soundtrack, Franz Ferdinandand Kerli also appear on the album. Myspace Music will premiere a complete album stream on February 28, just in case you’re not already convinced that this is an amazing soundtrack. An Alice in Wonderland Original Motion Picture Score will also be released March 2 and will feature the music that will be heard when you see the movie.
Now ladies, you’ve got a very important date to remember, so be sure to pick up your copy of the soundtrack and enjoy all these great songs!
