A few weekends ago, I took a trip out east to Boston. I knew it would be cold, but my goodness, it was so freezing it made Denver seem like a picnic! When the wind off the water hits your face, it just hurts. Props to all you Bostonians (and elsewhere!) for bearing those chilly temperatures! My face took a harsh beating that weekend and I started looking for some products to rejuvenate my skin.

When it comes to masques, microdermabrasions and other treatments I am clueless. Are you supposed to rotate these different skin methods or use all of them? How often do you need to use them? Answers and some fantastic products below.

Peel Away the Layers

I’m not talking about chemical peels-yikes! Rather a moderate peel to loosen those dead skin cells like New Beginnings Papaya Peel. The powerful papaya enzyme, Papain gently exfoliates dulling cells on the skin’s surface. Did you know it takes about four weeks to regenerate new skin? That means dead skin cells sit on your face, making it look dry and rough (my problem exactly!). Nourish and replenish skin with this non-invasive peel to reveal the fresh new beauty beneath. Chamomile and Aloe Vera are also ingredients in The New Beginnings Papaya Peel. The peel is best used when combined with the New Beginnings moisturizer.

Microderm-a-what?

Microdermabrasion is basically a method that removes the outermost dead skin cells. It can be fine, grain-like crystals or mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide. Home systems are becoming more popular because they are cheap and easy to use like Olay’s Microdermabrasion & Peel System. Two easy steps will resurface skin and improve circulation. Sand the skin with the derma-crystal treatment and then massage the peel activator serum on top. The starter kit comes with enough for eight weeks of treatments.

 Masquerade

One of my favorite methods of relaxation is to apply this Mint Julep masque and jump in the bathtub. Thank you to Queen Helene for this amazing and natural home treatment. It helps dry up pimples, zap blackheads and shrink pores. My face feels more alive and minty-fresh after rinsing. Masques are great to use once or twice a week.

Fun with Fizz

The Triple Energy Oxygen Masque from Bliss is a lot fun to use. I was shocked when the cream instantly started bubbling on my face. This is a take-home version of a visit to the Bliss Spa. As we get older, the natural oxygen levels in our facial skin decrease along with the energy needed to keep our cells functioning. This fast-acting mask delivers a shot of oxygen, detoxifiers and Vitamin C and it happens in minutes. I also read that it can help with acne by applying it on areas that often break-out. You can use this one whenever you need a boost or a couple times a week.

Valentine’s Day Bonus

Since the day of love is upon us, you might want to check out his limited edition package from Skin Authority. The GO! Love kit includes cleanser, exfoliator, antioxidants and sun protection. These minis are perfect for travel or even to throw in your gym bag. My favorite item in this kit is the Tri-Power Peptide Hydrator. It’s a lightweight formula with intense hydration, (hence the name!) using the anti-aging benefits of peptides, which tone, smooth and lift the skin.

You can find some great deals by checking online or going to a discount beauty store. But when all else fails, just splurge and go get a facial.

I would love to try the Mint Julep masque and The Triple Energy Oxygen Masque from Bliss. Right now, I just use acne pads from Avon. I guess that they work, but it does take a while for them to get started.
