Recently we got the honor of interviewing up and coming singer Khalil. Learn more about him and his music below.
R: Tell us about yourself?
K: I am a 15 year old singer and I love to sing, I got signed to Island DefJam about a year ago and I’m currently working on my album.
R: How long have you been singing? Have you always wanted to become a singer?
K: I’ve been singing for about two years, but originally I wanted to become a basketball player. When I got signed to DefJam I was the captain of my team so I was just pursuing that.
R: How did you get your start in singing?
K: Well, my aunt always thought I could sing but I never really thought of it as a career. Well one day my aunt told me to upload a video to Youtube so she could show the family, so I did, and a few months later I was singed.
R: Whose idea was it for you to put a video up of you singing on youtube? What song did you sing?
K: My Aunt Cass was the one who told me to upload the video. I sang “Tomorrow” by Kevin Campbell and I sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston.
R: What did you think when the Worldwide Entertainment CEO, Kevin Wales, contacted you through your youtube account?
K: I was just praying that everything he was saying he could actually make happen and he definitely pulled through
R: Tell us about the audition with Island Def Jam President L.A. Reid.
K: It was surreal, at first I was really nervous then after I sang and I knew he liked it I cooled down.
R: Tell us about your LP. How would you describe your music? Does it have a title? Do you have a release date yet for it? Where can people buy the LP?
K: I would describe my music as Fun and just good to listen to. I currently haven’t Chosen the name for my album but I will keep everyone updated. Also you will be able to buy my album everywhere this summer.
R: Tell us about the Simon Mall Tour that you will be doing this summer? Where can people find the dates to the tour?
K: Its a tour that Teen Island is putting together, and you’ll be able to find the dates on IslandDefjam.com and TeenIsland.com
R: What has been your most memorial moment so far?
K: Definitely auditioning for L.A. Reid
R: What do you do in your spare time?
K: usually hang out with friends/Girls, or play basketball.
R: What singers and bands can be found on your mp3 player or ipod?
K: I listen to a lot of Lil Wayne, and a lot of Fabolous.
R: If you could tour with anyone in the world, who would it be?
K: I would have to say Lil Wayne
R: What is the best advice you have ever gotten and by who?
K: I would have to say my aunt, and that’s just stay humble.
R: What advice would you give someone who wanted to become a singer?
K: Keep your head up and never let anyone one tell you that you can’t make it.
R: Are you single? What do you look for in a girlfriend?
K: Yes I’m single, and I look for girls that are real down to earth and fun to hang out with.
