Relate recently got to talk to Mandy Rain of the all girl teenage group the School Gyrls. Learn more about her and the band.
R: Tell us about the band? Who is in it, and how did you all meet?
M: We are a girl group produced by Nick Cannon, (Chairman of Nickelodeon), we consist of myself, Mandy Rain, Monica Parales and Jacque Rae. We all meet in a kind of cool and surreal way. We all did prior projects, such as I did a show with Nick called “Star Camp”, Jacque auditioned, and Monica knew him from meeting many times and other projects she did. The surreal part is when we meet at Mariah & Nick’s home. It was such an honor meeting her.
R: How long have each of you been singing, acting and dancing?
M: I have been singing Christina Aguilera at the age of five. I did some dancing when I was young (baby ballerina) but the real hip-hop dancing started when I was about ten. I’ve been acting since I was ten as well.
R: How well does the band get along? How do you deal with disagreements?
M: We solve everything out and talk talk talk, like sisters.
R: Tell us about your debut album “School Gyrls.” How would you describe your music?
M: We have a new kind of sound that you will definitely love. It’s not a specific kind of sound. Its hip-hop meets R&B, meets pop. We have so many different sounds to our album its crazy. It’s the “School Gyrls Genre” (laughs)
R: Tell us about the songs “Get Like Me” and “”Something Like a Party.”
M: “Get Like Me” is a very groovy song. You can kind of do what ever dance you love most to it. You can jerk, dougie, funky chicken, whatever it is, you can do it to this song. It also features the amazing Mariah Carey. It’s such a huge blessing to have someone so accomplished feature on our first album. And of course “Something Like A Party” its a very simple song but has so much behind it, it literally goes “La Da Da Da Da, Da Da, Oooohhhh IT’S SOMETHING LIKE A PARTY!!” It’s about partying and dancing and having fun and we decided to make this song, because everyone can sing it! You CAN’T forget the words.
R: What is your favorite song to perform on stage and why?
M: My favorite song to perform is Detention because I LOVE singing, and that song really lets my voice do what it was born to do and its very fun to dance too of course.

R: Tell us about your up and coming tour.
M: We are SUPER excited for the upcoming tour, we can’t wait to meet each and every person that has been showing us love and support for so long and make dreams come true!! We want to travel to new places, see different things we’d never imagine seeing before and most importantly, making a difference along the journey and showing everyone who we are.
R: Tell us about “The School Gyrls movie.” Tell us about your characters? Are there any simulates between you and your characters?
M: The School Gyrls movie is definitely one you have to see if you haven’t already. It’s like everything else we do.. different. My character is “Mandy Rain”, she’s very clumsy, she’s always running into teachers. She’s very silly and fun. She’s the “Class Clown”. She’s very protective over her friends and is a very lovable person. My character is a lot like me, almost identical, but if that was me in real life when Monica was being picked on I would have got more in Bambi’s (Lindsey’s) face because I get really protective.
R: Tell us about “Archie Meets the School Gyrls.”
M: “Archie Meets the School Gyrls” is a very fun comic to read!! My mom has been reading them since she was seven or eight years old!! I picked one up when I was 12 and got hooked! They are very fun to read and it’s cool to see me and gyrls stuck up in Riverdale for a day.
R: Tell us about “School Gyrls: The Junior Novel.” Where can people get the book?
M: “The School Gyrls Junior Novel” is the original movie script. It’s what the movie was going to be before Justin Bieber got to busy. He had a much larger roll, but he went on tour! So you get to read some things that you didn’t get to see in the movie. You can get it at any Borders and some Wal-marts, Targets near you. You can also get them on Amazon.com.
R: All of you have great fashion sense. How did you come up with your styles, and what is your favorite thing to wear?
M: My fashion sense initially came from my mom. She use to send me places in tutu’s and boots. She is still the base of my image, I change it up a little and do what I want, but she gives me mostly all of my great ideas.
R: Who has been your biggest influence?
M: Musically my biggest influence has been Christina Aguilra, She is a power house and not one of her songs ever gets old to me. Dance/Performance wise Britney Spears has been a huge inspiration to me. In my everyday life, my biggest influence has been my mom. She has taught me everything i know today and i thank her everyday for it.
R: What singers and bands can you found on your ipod or mp3 players? What are your favorite songs by each of them?
M: Christina Aguilra, Britney Spears, B.o.B., Usher, Miley Cyrus, Adam Lambert, Miranda Cosgrove. I love the song Kissin’ You by her!! It’s great!
R: If you could tour with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
M: I would love to go on tour with RydazNRtist, Aaron Fresh, Gabi Wilson, and Or Colette Carr of course. I would also love to go on tour with Nick Jonas, because I really like his voice, I think he’s an amazing singer, plus he’s adorable!
R: What has been your most star struck moment? Who was it and tell us about it.
M: Probably the moment I meet Mariah Carey. I have so much respect for her, and think she is an amazing singer. Shes so Ncredible.
R: If you could make a quest appearance on any show, what show would that be and why?
M: I would really like to appear on Glee, or 90210 because I love watching both of them and would like to see School Gyrls appear in them!

R: What is it like to be able to communicate with your fans?
M: I actually don’t refer to the people that support me and the gyrls as my “fans” I call them my friends. Because I view each and everyone of them as my friends they treat me just like my friends would. I love being able to talk to them. On twitter for example, I follow everyone that asks, and reply to as many people as possible. Sometimes it gets kind of overwhelming replying to everyone but I do my best.
R: What has been the nicest thing a fan has done or said to you?
M: Wow, its hard to pick one person that has done one thing, a few friends have made me friendship bracelets, and some have send packages, but the words that they send me everyday mean the most. To know that i made a difference in so many peoples lives means so much to me.. much more than any present.
R: What do you do in your spare time?
M: In my spare time i like to take dance classes, and train. I wouldn’t really call that spare time (laughs) but that’s what I like to do most. When I’m not doing that I’m spending time with my little brother Matt, hanging with friends, sleeping and eating (laughs).
R: What is the best advice you have ever gotten and by who?
M: My parents have always told me be strong in what you do, love yourself, and hold your head up high
R: What advice would you give teenage girls?
M: STAY YOUNG! Don’t worry about growing up. I know it sounds amazing, driving, and make up and all of that, but it’s not all it seems. The most beautiful girls are the ones that don’t wear make up. Every once and a while its fun, but don’t get into a habit of using everyday so young! I wanna be a kid forever.

R: Do you have any charities that are close to your heart? If so, tell us about them?
M: Yes, I want to start getting involved in Cancer charities. I recently lost my grandpa to cancer, and I want to get involved in finding a cure for it. I also love “The Big Help” and “Jeans Bring Dreams”.
R: What are your future goals?
M: To focus on school gyrls right now. In the future I want to continue what I am doing, I love singing and performing. My goal is to be a “house hold name.”I could also see myself being a fashion designer or a choreographer.
R: What are five things people may not know about you?
M: 1. I am scared of bee’s (after i was traumatized when I steeped on one )
2. I separate my french fries by size (laughs)
3. I sing in my sleep (laughs)
4. I must have desert everyday
5. I’m afraid to walk in a dark room with out my little brother
R: Are you on any social networking sites? If so, which ones and what are their addresses? Do you have an official website? If so, what is the address? Do you have a Youtube account? If so, what is the address?
M: Yes of course I have a twitter, which I’m on a lot! Its www.twitter.com/realmandyrain .. Myspace: www.myspace.com/themandyrain .. Youtube: www.youtube.com/realmandyrain and of course a Facebook: you just have to search Mandy Rain.
R: Other than this one, what is the weirdest question you have ever been asked?
M: The weirdest question I’ve ever been asked was is if I was dating Justin Bieber (laughs).
R: Is there anything else you would like to add or say to your fans?
M: Thank you so much for all the support. I really love each and everyone one of you. It’s unexplainable how I feel. I just appreciate what you guys do for me and the gyrls so much its Ncredible. Ohh yeah and “Don’t follow the trends.. SET THEM!”
