Recently Relate had the honor of interview adorable actress Karley Scott Collins. Karley has been in many movies which include “Amish Grace” and “Letters to God.” Continue reading on and learn about Karley and her up and coming movies.
R: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
K: I’m 10 years old and I’m originally from Florida. I love to Swim, draw, write stories, listen to music and I love to read.
R: How did you get into acting, and what age did you start?
K: My Pediatrician told my Mom about a Theatre program that we had near my home town when I was five years old, he thought that I would really enjoy it. While I was there some of the older teenagers were talking about Pilot Season, I told my Mom about it and she said we could give it a try. I went to California when I turned six and auditioned for the part of Oprah on “The Class” I was fortunate enough to be blessed with the part and it was picked up on CBS and after that I was hooked!
R: Tell us about your movie “Amish Grace,” and about your character Katie Graber?
K: Amish Grace is based on a true story of the events that happened in the community of Nickel Mines in 2006. In the movie my sister is one of the girls shot and killed in the school house. My character Katie ran from the school house and was spared and because of this I’m dealing with a lot of emotions like guilt for having left and hatred for the man that took my sisters life. My mom (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and I are really struggling, but end up learning the gift of forgiveness that God wants for us all.
R: What was the audition process like for “Amish Grace?” How did you find out that you got the role? How long did it take to film the movie?
K: My agent sent me the script and sides for the part, I sat down and read them and right away I felt connected to them, I really wanted to do this part to show how amazing the Amish are and how their faith in God affected their community and world. I went to the first audition and felt really good about what I had done, 2 weeks later I got the call that I had a callback and then later the next day my agent called that I had booked the role. I was so excited that I was chosen to help tell their story.
R: How do you prepare yourself for a role?
K: I always read the script and try to see if there is anything that I have in common with the character or something that I can relate to in the sides.
R: What is the best and worse thing about acting?
K: Well of course the best part is when you get the part after all the hard work and you get to see the finished product. The worst part is being away from my family for long periods of time.
R: What has been your favorite memory so far?
K: My favorite memory so far is still the very first time that I got a call from my agent that I had booked my first role. That was amazing, I was so excited.
R: Tell us about your movie “Letter to God,” and about your character Ashley Turner?
K: Letters to God is about a little boy that has terminal cancer and through out his illness he writes letter to God and he ends up making a huge difference in the lives of the people and family around him, I play one of his friends from school. The movie has a great message.
R: If you could work with anyone in the world who would it be?
K: Angelina Jolie, I have seen a few parts from her movies and I think she’s amazing! I love her action films, I would love to do an action movie. I also really admire all of the charity work she does and how she tries to make a difference, I hope to become involved in some charities too.
R: If you could make a guest appearance on any show, which one would it be and why?
K: “Wizards of Waverly Place”, because every time I watch that show, I laugh a lot and always enjoy it.
R: What do you do for fun when you are not acting?
K: I love to read, have sleep overs and play with my friends, swim, go to Disney or the beach, pretty much the normal kid stuff.
R: What are five things people do not know about you?
K: I’m a vegetarian, I collect rocks and crystals, I scuba dive, I collect fairies, I’m an only child.
R: What are five things you can not live without?
K: My family, my pets, my Kindle, my Laptop, I-pod.
R: What singers and bands can be found on your mp3 player or ipod? What are your favorite songs by each of them?
K: Taylor Swift- Fearless, Love Story, Hey Stephen Selena Gomez- Kiss and Tell, Falling Down, Naturally Guns and Roses- Sweet Child O’mine, November rain
R: Do you have any hidden talents?
K: I play the piano and love to paint; one of my favorite artists is Georgia O’keeffe.
R: Can you tell us anything about your up and coming movie, “Answers to Nothing,” and about your character Tina?
K: It’s a movie about how we affect each other in ways we don’t always see, a little girl is missing and my Mom (Julie Benz) is a detective working the case, I play Tina and I’m around the same age of the missing girl.
R: What are your future goals?
K: I want to take my blessings and success and make a difference in the world. I would love to do something for children or feed the homeless and give them shelter.
R: What is the best advice you have ever gotten and by who?
K: My Mimi has always told me since I was really little to always remember that “You never fly so high that God can’t clip your wings”
R: What advice would you give girls these days?
K: No matter what you do in life, try to do it with a positive attitude and try your best and try to do something everyday to brighten someone’s life other than your own even if it’s just holding open a door for someone.
R: Other than this one, what is the strangest question you have ever been asked?
K: I haven’t really been asked any thing strange.
R: Are you on any social networking sites? If so, which ones and what are their addresses?
