Trusting vs. Freaking Out

I like to be in control of things. If you’re like me, you’re all about lists, plans and kicking things into shape to “get ‘er done”. But sometimes things are just out of my hands. Especially since I married and moved to my husband’s homeland of France.
I had been in France for only a month or two when I went to the prefecture (the government office for driver’s licenses, immigrant visas and much more). They told me I had to go all the way back to the USA for a long-stay visa. I was frustrated, lost and feeling terribly alone. I started praying, “Lord God, this means we won’t have money to go home for Christmas…I don’t wanna do this…why won’t they let me stay here with my husband!”
Lost
I was walking down the quaint stone street, not understanding a word of the French spoken all around me. Then I heard in English, “You are not alone, ‘cause I am there with you,” I looked around, startled. It was coming from a car stopped at a red light. The window was down with the radio turned up. “So when you feel like you’re done and the darkness has won, I say, babe you’re not lost…” I felt it was the Lord comforting and reassuring me through the rich voice of Michael Bublé and his song “Lost”.
I knew the Lord was there with me and decided to trust Him for the future. Of course that’s easy to say and harder to do. I did have to go back and get my visa, but it all worked out and I got my residence card. My parents even figured out a way to give us airline tickets for Christmas.
All my worrying and stressing was it didn’t accomplish anything. With some trust in Lord, I could have been resting easy that whole time.
Trust
We have all kinds of opportunities to stress and worry, especially when it comes to our future. Things happen that we can’t predict or plan for; we are faced with choices that seem impossible. However, Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us the perfect solution; “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
