Want to Write for Relate?
Relate accepts unsolicited manuscripts related to teens, including but not limited to:
· Design: fashion (teen fashion designers), DIY activities
· Entertainment: music, movies, television , and celebrity interviews
· Future: teen entrepreneurs, jobs, and college information
· Beauty: hairstyles, makeup and skin care
· Faith: descriptions of religions and what they believe, personal-development, and inspiration
· Life: stories about teens from around the world, articles about guys, health and other teenage issues.
· Quizzes: variety of topics
Before pursuing any article listed, please query first, to make sure that your topic choice has not already been reserved for another witer. Queries should include proposed subject, length, applicability and writer samples.
Average article is between 650 and 1,600 words in length although longer work will be considered. Sidebar information is also encouraged, as well as graphics, including illustrations, and photographs.
If you are unsure of any facts in the article, please call this to our attention at the beginning of the article. We can help you verify the facts or remove them from the article.
Relate takes North American serial rights on all work accepted. Relate retains the right to also publish everything that appears in our magazine on the relatemag.com website. Those interested in writing for Relate on a regular basis as a staff columnist must query first, and include a brief bio/resume and sample article.
All mailed submissions should be set up in the standard manuscript format (title, name, address, phone number, rights preferred and approx word count on title page, and every subsequent page fully numbered). Cover letter should include a brief bio and credits, where you heard of Relate Magazine, and sample writings. We encourage writers to email their articles directly. Emailed articles should be mailed as an attached .txt file or copied and then pasted into the actual email message to us. Email all queries and submissions to mary@relatemag.com.
Work may receive a written critique and editorial suggestions. All work will be edited to some degree, to match our editorial format. Although all writers will be notified of acceptance within a few weeks of submission, we cannot guarantee a publication date. However when the article is scheduled for an upcoming issue, we will attempt to notify the writer before publication. We reserve the right to reject previously accepted work at any time and for any reason.

Flat payment fees are made depending on the type and length of article and is made upon publication.

RelateMag.com
In addition to most of the content that appears in the magazine, RelateMag.com publishes several articles on a variety of topics each month. While these are typically unpaid, it’s the easiest way to begin writing for Relate. Online pitches can be sent to our Web Editor Katie Hinderer via e-mail at katie@relatemag.com.
Articles featured on the website are shorter in length than the average magazine submission usually ranging between 300 and 450 words.
