More Unique Ideas for Your Bedroom

Written by: Jill Sheets

There are many ways to make your bedroom different, but still make it your own taste. Anything from the color of paint you use in your room to your bedcovers. Well, here are a few more ideas that you can do to make your bedroom unique.

Shower Curtain

Let’s start with the windows. There are many options that you can pick for a window treatment. There are curtains, mini-blinks, roller shades and wood blinds. But have you ever thought about using sheets, blankets or even shower curtains for your bedroom window?

Placemat

Now let’s think about your bedroom walls. Like the window you have many options. You know about putting pictures, mirrors and posters up, but how about placemats. They do not even have to match and it is the time for garage/yard sales. If you do not have any just laying around at home, why not get up early with your family and or friends and check the garage /yard sales. You can get solid color ones, ones with dogs, cartoon characters and many more. Just think about the things you like and or collect and start hunting.

Trivet

Normally when you think of a trivet you think of the kitchen. A trivet is something you put in-between a serving bowl and table, so that the table is protected from the heat. Well, why not hang some up on your bedroom walls. Trivets are made out of many different materials, like metal, ceramic, wood, cork and fabric.

China Plates

Along those same lines, you can put up mismatched china plates or platters.

If you are a big music fan, why not put up vinyl record covers or CD covers on your bedroom walls. You can put up covers of bands or singers that you like or just covers that you think are different or you like. Again, you maybe able to find them at garage/yard sales or antique shops. You can even check with your parents to see if they have any in storage or ones they do not want anymore.

Balloons

Some other ideas include:  puzzles that you put together, themed birthday balloons, bike wheel with pictures in it, hang necklaces on the wall or on a cork board, maps, pot holders or decorative hand towels.

Closet Organizer

When you were little, the best way to clean your room was to throw everything in the closet. As you got older, you started to realize that you would not be able to find anything you need if it was just throw in there. But the question comes about, how do I keep my room clean and my closet organized? There are many items out in the world that will help you keep your closet organized. These items below are just a few.

Some of us have hundreds or what looks like hundreds of shoes. The only problem is that most of them are at the bottom of our closet, and it takes a lot of time rooting around trying to find the mate to a shoe that we had just thrown on the floor in our closet. There are many options to pick from. Many you may already have known about.

Shoe Rack

Shoe Rack

For shoes, what about floor racks that you can put at the bottom of your closet. You can put your shoes on it, and keep them organized and together. Along the same lines are over the door shoe organizers or stackable clear shoe boxes. That way you can see which shoes are in the boxes.

Purses on hooks

Purses are another weakness for some. Again, we are faced with the problem of where to store them. Have you tried hanging handbag organizer on hooks or if you have selves already in your closet, what about dividers.

Shelf Divider

Again, if you already have shelves then stacking sweaters or other clothing items in your closet it is a little easier to keep you clothing items organized. If you do not have shelves, think about possible putting some up in your closet, but check with your parents first. When you have shelves, you can then use dividers to help keep things in order. Of course hangers are a great way to keep your clothes organized, and there are many kinds of hangers you can choose from. There are also compartment boxes and stacking baskets.

Jewelry Hanger

Jewelry, belts and other accessory are sometimes hard to keep track of. There are belt hangers, jewelry hangers, you can even put a peg board in your closet and hang your necklaces and bracelets off push pins. There are also over the door racks and storage, wall mount rack on hooks, hanging storage and stacking drawers.

No matter what items or ways that you pick to help organize you closet, you will not regret it. It will save you time and hassle in the long run.

Remember to ask your parent’s before decorating.

Add Color to Your Room with Tie-Dye

Add Color to Your Room with TieDye

Tie Dye

Tie Dye

Tie-Dye is not just for t-shirts anymore. Why not try adding cool to your room by making tie-dye sheets. Even though it can be a messy project, it is fun. You can bring in your friends or family members to help out.

We thought about how we should go about tie-dying sheets. We wanted to find the easiest way, so we finally picked up a Tie-Dye kit. We picked the one that you had to just add water, and that there is no presoaking required. We also picked out a flat twin white sheet to dye. For the sheet, you will want to get as close as you can to 100 % cotton as you can.

Flat Sheet

Tie-Dye kit

Tie-Dye kit

The first thing you will want to do is change into old clothing, ones that you would not care if you ruined. Then if your kit does not have a plastic to cover the surface that you are working at, grab a plastic trash bag and lay it where you will be working. You would not want to dye your parent’s table. Even better if you have a place outside to do it, that would probable be your best bet.

Tie-Dye

Please make sure you follow the directions in your kit. For the one we used you need to put on the plastic gloves before you start messing with the dye. It is just incase you spill the dye or get some on your hands. Your skin may have a reaction to the dye, and it is really not that fun trying to remove it from your hands.

Then pick out the colors you want to use. After that, take the top of the dye bottle and then you add water up to the lines on the colors that you want to use. Put the cap back on the bottle, and then shake up the bottle until the dye is dissolved.

Now it is time to get the bed sheet ready. If it is not already unfold the sheet. The tie the rubber bands around the sheet. Then you are ready to dye. Add what ever dye to where you would like it. Have fun and experiment. No matter what, your tie-dye sheet will turn out great.

Graduation

Graduation

For some of you graduation is here or around the corner in the near future. And for some, you are now thinking about the college or university that you are going to. You are thinking about what classes to take, how you are going to find your way around campus, who will end up being your room mate and what you will want to get for your dorm room. Here are some ideas that came from www.dormco.com.

A lot of time you will find dorm rooms without carpet, and it can cost a lot to get one big carpet to put in. Then you will have the hassle of taking it back out when the school year is over. So what about a microfiber dorm rug that you can put in front of the bed, so you do not have to step on the cold wooden floors and you get out of bed? The micofiber run comes in 4 different sizes. There is an anti-slip bottom, so you do not slide when you step on the run and fall. The prices are anywhere from $19.58 and up.

The next item is a great place to pack your stuff that you need to take to college, and it will also serve as a great storage place. This wonderful item is their footlocker storage truck. The trunk has wheels, 2 handles and it is 30×15 ¾ x 12 ¼. The cost for the footlocker storage truck is $77.67. Like every item that is mentioned, there are other options for the footlocker storage trunk.

This is a neat little item. Dormco.com sales a water powered clock. This would be a great gift for someone who is going green. This clock is powered by water. That is right powered by water not electricity or batteries. The clock is easy to read and it has the time, month and date on it. The only problem about this clock is that it is not an alarm clock, but it would look great on your desk. The water powered clock is $13.86.

But Dormco does offer alarm clocks. One of them is the always correct Atomic Radio Controlled LED Alarm clock. The clock shows the month, date, day of the week and temperature. The clock is $19.98.

Every dorm needs a mini fridge with freezer. That way you do not have to run to the store in the middle of the night if you get thirsty or have this craving for chocolate ice-cream. This mini fridge will fit perfectly under your desk or just on the floor. The mini fridge with the freezer is $143.37.

Another thing that a dorm room needs is a blackout curtain. It blocks out 99.9 % of the sunlight, it covers wide windows and it is easy to hang up. With these curtains, the sun will not wake you up if you want to sleep in on the weekends. Everyone knows how important sleep is. The black out curtain is $19.93.

Picture frames are wonderful. What about peel ‘n’ stick picture frames. You can even remove them from where you had it and put it in another location. Plus, they will not harm your dorm walls. The sticker frames are $19.95.

Sometime setting on your bed all the time is not comfortable. And if you have guest over you probably will not want them to have to set on your bed. So… What about a comfortable moon chair. Being comfortable is not the only great thing about it. You do not have to assemble it, it is easy to store and it meets the CA fireproof testing guidelines. The chair is $49.93

How to Be a Fashion Risk-Taker

How to Be a Fashion Risk-Taker

fashion

http://www.parking-net.com/Upload/News/29636/PARKING%20OUTFIT%20FASHION%20SYSTEMS%20LR.jpg

Do you always wear what you want? I mean always? Or are you letting other people dictate your style? Here’s one way to figure it out. If you could go strut down the street of a big city one day wearing absolutely anything—no limits at all—and know for sure that you’d never see any of the people around there again, what would you wear? Is it something that’s in your closet now?

If not, think about why. Barring price limits—and yes, those are completely understandable—why don’t we always wear what appeals to us most? I think we’d all be a lot happier and more confident if we fully developed our own senses of style.

Before I delve too deeply into this topic, I should put forth a disclaimer that I’m not your typical fashionista. I take plenty of chances with my wardrobe, but I don’t always choose to wear things that look chic, classy, or—well—normal. My mom has even stopped to snap my photo in the past with the intention of sending it in to Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear. I’ll pull on socks with leggings, wear a bright-orange pencil skirt with magenta heels, and pile three or four necklaces on without a second thought (and sometimes I might even do all of those things on the same day). Sure, I get some weird looks, but I love what I wear, and it makes me feel comfortable, happy, and expressive.

fashion 2http://i45.tinypic.com/ritafq.jpg

Taking risks with fashion means different things to different people. If you have no desire to wear the kinds of clothes I do, you may not feel tempted by the electric-blue tights you see on a mannequin at the department store. For you, a simple risk might be just putting on a skirt, trying to incorporate a bit more color into your wardrobe, or teasing your hair and topping it with a fun accessory.

The point is that you should never feel afraid to take a fashion risk or worry about what other people will think. If you’re comfortable with it, that’s what matters. Risks—fashion or otherwise—are all about confidence. If you can walk out your front door wearing something you love and smiling about it, other people will think you look great—and the people who don’t aren’t important. You can be gorgeous in anything you wear, so go forth and own it!

Ideas for Different Nightstands

Ideas for Different Nightstands

Written by Jill Sheets

bedroom[1]

Nightstands are a wonderful thing to have. It is a great place to put a lamp on, so you have light when you read or write in bed. It is a great place to put a water bottle, so you have something to drink if you get thirsty at night. It is something you can store pens, paper, pictures or anything else you want.

Some of you may already have a nightstand that came with the future in your room, but if you do not here are some great ideas on what you can make a nightstand out of. You can make on out of almost anything.

You may have seen this in some of your friend’s bedrooms or on TV, but why not use wooden create boxes. You can paint them, leave them alone or throw a table cloth over it.

filing_cabinet[1]

Do you have a filing cabinet? Well pull it over to the side of your bed. You can also paint the cabinet if you want, but you do not have to. Think of all that space that you can store books, school supplies and anything that you will want to put in the cabinet.

Pull your desk closer to your bed, and use that as a night stand also. Or use a small bookcase or a small dresser. Again, you will have a lot of room to store almost anything you may need in your desk or on a small bookcase.

folding table[1]

Use your imagination. There are probably just things lying around your bedroom or your house. Do you have any trunks in your house? What about using them for a nightstand? You can also use a chair, a wheeled cart or an old coffee, end table or folding table. You can even turn baskets upside down, put a cloth on it and turn it into a nightstand.

But make sure that what ever idea you choose, make sure it reflects your personality.

Simple Wind Chime

Simple Wind Chime

Written by Jill Sheets

WindChime Craft 018[1]

There are many different styles of wind chimes. Some clang together to make music in the wind, while other is just for decoration. The one today will be just for decoration.  Here is what you will need to make the wind chime in the picture.

• Screw eye hooks

WindChime Craft 005[1]

• Charms (anything you want to put on the wind chime)

WindChime Craft 006[1]

• Invisible cord (bead cord)

WindChime Craft 003[1]

• Paint (acrylic) Our color is Prism violet

WindChime Craft 004[1]

 • Wood piece that you want the charms to hang from

WindChime Craft 002[1]

The first thing that you will want to do is screw one eye hook to the top of the wood piece. That way you will have something to hold onto while you paint.

WindChime Craft 008[1]

You will then want to paint the bottom of the wood piece. That will be the part of the board that will be handing the other eye hooks and charms from. It could take multiple coats, so do not get frustrated about it. Just keep painting it until it is the way you like it. Then let the paint completely dry.

WindChime Craft 010[1]

After the paint is dried, then screw in the other eye hooks. Use as many as you like, but be careful not to over do it as the cords can get tangled, which can be hard to separate them if that happens.

WindChime Craft 014[1]

Then take the invisible cord and cut the pieces the length that you want. You will be tying the charms to these pieces. After they are cut, tie the cords to the charms. When you are finished with all of the charms, you can them tie the other side of the cords to the eye hooks that are on the book of the piece of wood. There is not a right or wrong way to do it. Hang the charms where you would like them to go.

When you are finished you can hang them from your ceiling, your window almost any place. Just make sure it is alright with your parents.

Making wind chimes is a great way to decorate your bedroom.

Making an Old Headboard into a New One

Making an Old Headboard into a New One

Written by Jill Sheets

headboard-in-our-room[1]

Image from: www.tripadvisor.com

You have had the same headboard for years. You have had it so long that looking at the board makes you want to scream. So what are some things you can do to change your headboard without having to go buy a whole new one?

If you have an old wooden headboard, there are many options to choose from to add character to it.

You can paint your old headboard. You can always paint it a solid color, but why not go a little farther. Paint a picture or pictures on it. You can either paint the headboard free hand or pick up some stintcles. What about using sponges?

Mic[1]

Many of us have had celebrity crushes. Why not put pictures of them up on your headboard? You can get them from a magazine. Even if you do not have a celebrity crush, you can still find the things that you like out of magazines, cut them out and put them up on the board. What about real pictures? Why not pictures of your pets, friends and family? Just make sure that you have an extra copies of the pictures just incase something goes wrong and the pictures get damaged.

blue_tiled_wall[1]Image credit: http://www.sxc.hu

Another chose is to glue floor or wall tiles on the headboard. There are many different types of tiles out there, so check around at the hardwood store or any place that would carry them, but make sure that you measure your headboard before you go out and find the perfect tiles for your headboard.

So what if you do not have a headboard. No problem. You always have many options to pick from.

love_is_music notes[1]

Why not paint a picture of a headboard behind your bead or if that is not your style, paint other pictures on the wall. Again, think of the things that you like. If you love acting what about painting pictures of the comedy and tragedy masks? If you like to sing what about music notes or what if you play a musical instrument what painting a picture or pictures of that instrument on the wall?

1097052_wrought-iron_door[1]

Some other ideas are using a large pillow as a headboard. Put wall hangings up behind your bed. What about using an old Chinese folding screen or use a wrought iron door or gate. Hang up a sheer piece of fabric or any fabric up on the wall or from the ceiling.

Remember to check with mom or dad before you start. And always, use your imagination and have fun.
