As a Parent, What Is Your Role When Your Child Starts to Consider Careers?

Knowing what you should be doing as a parent when your child is considering their career options can be pretty tricky. You need to strike a balance when it comes to your involvement. These decisions aren’t yours, but at the same time, you don’t want your child to be lost and unsure. This is what we’re going to look at in more detail right now, so read on if you’re a parent of a teen.

Motivate Your Child to Pursue Their Goals

Offering motivation is one very positive thing you can do. If they worry that they don’t have the ability to do the things they want to do, you should do what you can to reassure them and encourage to carry on pushing for the goals they have. It’s not difficult to do, but it can be massively helpful.

Suggest Ideas That You Think Might Suit Their Skills

Your child might be stuck for ideas of what they want to do when for a career. That’s hardly uncommon. You should be there to gently offer suggestions, without being too forthright about it. Give thought to the things they enjoy and are good at. If they’re good with numbers, pointing them towards an international finance msc might be useful. It’s a way of being there and offering the right kind of support.

Don’t Pressure Them With Expectations

Parental pressure can be very damaging for some children, and it doesn’t necessarily help them in any way at all. So, don’t assume that the best way for your child to achieve the best in life is for you to put pressure on them. You will simply end up alienating them, and it could even cause resentment. Instead, be encouraging and accepting. Doing so will help keep your child happy and balanced as they enter the world of work.

Avoid Dictating to Them

You don’t want to be the kind of parent who tells their son or daughter which career they should choose. And you certainly shouldn’t try to correct your own career missteps and regrets via your child. That’s selfish and unfair. Instead, you should leave them in the driving seat, while also offering the right level of support and help when the time is right. That’s the best way to deal with this situation.

Inform Them About the World of Work

It’s valuable for your child to understand what the world of work is like and how it differs from the school routines they’re used to. It might sound like an obvious thing that doesn’t really need covering, but why would your child understand the world of work if they’re yet to enter it? The more you tell them, and that doesn’t necessarily mean scaring them, the better prepared they’ll be for what comes next.

There are plenty of things you can do, as well as things you shouldn’t, as a parent of a child who is starting to consider their career options. Keep the above things in mind when your child reaches this stage in their development.

Improve Your Chances Of Getting A Job After College

If you are thinking ahead and wondering how you will make some money after college, there is really one major option: to find some kind of work. Depending on what kind of interests you have, it is possible that you already have some kind of idea about what you will do for work. But even if you don’t, it is something you will need to think about at some point. Maybe you are nervous and wondering if you will be able to actually land a job you want. As long as you follow some basic rules, you should find that you can easily get the job that you are looking for. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the ways to do just that.

Know What They Are Looking For

One of the biggest mistakes that people make here is not really carrying out the research needed to land the job. There will be specific qualities and characteristics which your potential employers are looking for, and the more you acquaint yourself with those the more likely it is that you will be able to give them what they want. If you are struggling to work it out, take a look at the job description. Go through it and highlight any words or phrases that seem particularly important. Sometimes it will explicitly say that they are looking for a particular skill, and sometimes it will be hinted at. But your aim is to figure out what they want, and find a way to express that you have it as clearly as you can. You will find that this massively improves your chances overnight.

Learn How To Present Yourself

Essentially, you are going to have to advertise yourself to these employers, and that in itself is a skill that needs learning and can be taught quite easily. If you learn how to present yourself properly, then you will find that those potential employers are much more likely to notice you and to be impressed by you. There are a number of opportunities you are given to do so. First of all, you will need to learn how to write a resume, so that you can sell yourself straight off the bat. Then it is a matter of knowing how to act in interviews, which is a simple case of practising it with a friend. If you can present yourself in the right way, you can be sure of landing a job you really want, so this is worth practicing as best as you can.

Apply For More

One simple but powerful way of improving your chances of landing a job after college is to simply apply for a greater number. Sometimes you have to appreciate that you can’t always get exactly the job you want, and that can mean applying to a large number and diversifying your field a little. If you are able to do this, you can cast your net wider and have a better chance of ending up with a job.

The Right Person for Job: How to Prove You’re the One

Job hunting can be frustrating. All the knock backs and rejections can get you down. The trick is finding ways to prove to the employer that you’re the one and only person who can give them what they’re looking for. Proving you’re that one person is not easy, but it can be done. Don’t do yourself down or give up before the process has even begun.

You need to first of all believe that you are the right person for the job before you can convince anyone else that that’s true. Once you’ve got that covered, you can set about impressing the right people in the right ways. Read on if you want to learn about some of the steps you should take.

Do Your Research

First of all, you need to make sure you do plenty of research regarding the company and what it’s trying to achieve. If you don’t know plenty of information about the company, it’s a sign to the company that you’re not really that interested. If you really wanted the job, you would take the time to look into what the business has to offer, and what kind of work it does on a daily basis. It’s definitely worth doing, and be sure to use what you learn to your advantage when you’re attending interviews later.

When Writing Statements, Focus on Challenges, Actions and Results

You might be required to write a statement relating to your job application. This is certainly an important part of the process because these days, many companies place more importance on these than on CVs. They want to see a piece of writing that is directly from you and which displays something of your mentality and personality, as well as your career and academic background. Look at a sample ecq response if you want some ideas. It might help you a lot.

Don’t Talk Down Your Experience

If you haven’t been working for a long time, or you’ve only left education recently, you might feel like you’re lacking the kind of experience the company might be looking for. But don’t talk down the experience that you do have. Display it and talk about it in a creative way. This is not about lying. Instead, tell them how your experience in your career has helped you to grow and learn thus far. That turns your experience into more than a list of jobs on a piece of paper. It will be seen as transformative and valuable instead.

Show Your Personality

No one wants to hire someone who has no real personality. These days, employers are not just looking at your skills and your CV. Instead, they’re looking for people who can also slot into the current system that the company has in place. A lot of that will be linked to how you display your personality when you’re meeting representative from the business that you want to work for. Don’t try to hide your personality and appear blandly functional. Some people think that’s the way forward, but in most cases, that’s not true at all.

Consider Your Past Job Hunting Mistakes

Everyone has been out there searching for a job in the past. And you’ve probably made your fair share of mistakes during that time. The last thing you want when trying to show a company that you’re their ideal candidate is to be making lots of mistakes. Give some real thought to this and try to ensure that you don’t make the kind of mistakes that have stopped you from getting jobs that you wanted in the past. It might not seem like much, but having a smooth interview and application process can really help you get that job you want.

Prove You’re Curious

Finally, you need to take steps to prove that you’re very curious about working for the business and what it will involve going forward. Businesses want to know that you’re interested in working for them. They’re not going to want to hire a person who doesn’t seem bothered about whether they get the job or not. One of the ways in which you can do this is ask questions about working for the company and the role itself. Ask creative and interesting questions that show you have not just thought them up on the spot.

To get the job, you need to show people that you are the right person. The one that is better suited to the role than anyone else. So, make the most of the tips above.

What Does It Take To Be A Writer?

Becoming a writer isn’t as easy as writing a novel, sending it off and getting published that same day. Unfortunately it’s a lot more complicated than that – even JK Rowling got rejected many times before Harry Potter got put on the shelves, and even that isn’t an immediate thing, there’s the contract, editing, proofing, binding, advertising and marketing stages between you handing over a manuscript and someone buying it in a store.

But don’t be discouraged! Being a writer isn’t just define by becoming a bestselling novelist. You can be a journalist, a blogger, a reviewer, a copywriter – there’s a whole host of jobs that allow you to be ‘a writer.’ But for your best chance at any of these, there are some things you can do to get ahead of the competition and build up a portfolio.

Competitions

Writing competitions come in all shapes and sizes and cover every medium. Not only will you be able to write and have people read it, but you can also win some money. Most bigger competitions print an anthology afterward, meaning that you’ll get to see your work in print. When entering check the requirements- you can’t just write anything. There will be a subject to stick to, a word count and quite often an age limit. You can find competitions at thewritelife.

Blogging

Having a blog doesn’t mean that you have to start spilling your innermost secrets to the world – you don’t even have to talk about yourself. A blog can be about a subject you are passionate about like fashion, cars or elephants. You choose what to write about and when. This sort of writing is great to get you used to writing daily and to grow a following. You can keep your blog more journalistic with articles and reviews. Or you can just post fiction pieces if that’s what you prefer to do.

Education

You can expand your knowledge and job prospects by increasing your education. You can get a degree in Writing, English or Journalism from most Universities. If you don’t have the time or money to go back to college, then think about taking a writing course or enrolling in night school so that you get the experience. It’s also a great way to meet people with the same passions and goals, and you can really push each other to get better.

Freelancing

If you are working towards something else, or if this is what you want to do full time, freelancing is a great way to expand your writing knowledge while working. Being a freelance writer means that you need to be flexible with your styles of writing and be able to adapt to new ways of working quickly. You can sign up with a freelancer agency, or find jobs online. You could try and write for bestproductspro if you are more into review writing, or are looking to mix up your styles.

Preparing For College Life

Your teens are arguably the most important years of your life. It is the time where your body changes, you’ll grow into an adult and you will have to decide what path to take in life. It can be a scary time, but just remember that what you choose now doesn’t have to be permanent, later in life you will be able to change your decisions.

Preparing for life as a college student is a huge task; you’ll be faced with living away from home, cooking for yourself and studying independently. It is a big lifestyle change, but it is also a great opportunity for you to grow as a person.

Prepare for College in Advance

Always be prepared. There’s no such thing as preparing too much, so make sure you take ample time talking with your parents and teachers to decide on the path you want to take, what subject to study and where you want to go. Get prospectus’ sent in the mail so you can see what different colleges have to offer. Work out how far away things are and decide how far you are willing to travel from your family.

Take Leadership Roles

It will not only look good on your application, but it will also enrich your life and allow you to build your skills on a personal level. If you feel like you are a shy person naturally- taking on a leadership role can help you with your confidence and allow you to come out of your shell. It will make college interviews much easier to bare.

Have a Mentor

Find an older student, a family member or a teacher to help you with the application process. They have all been there before, so they will be able to advise you on what colleges are looking for in a student and the sort of things you want to add to your application. You may be surprised to hear that your hobby as a writer will be something to include on your application as it shows more about who you are as a person. Find useful sources of information and look at websites for tips on college life and admissions (source: collegeprepoptions.com)

Study

Get yourself into the habit of studying for every class each week. It doesn’t matter if you have a quiz coming up or not, you need to be reading up on the subject to help you better understand what you are learning- this will help you when you get to college because you will be expected to study independently.

Cut Down On Social Media

Social media is a huge part of our daily lives, but try and refrain from spending hours glued to your phone screen. Instead focus on your hobbies; go out and play a sport, read your favourite book or sketch. Enrich your life by spending time on what you love rather than looking at endless memes.

Do Not Cram for Exams

Procrastination is the enemy to every successful person. It is something that all of us do at some point or another, but it can prove damaging to your life and career. Instead of leaving your study until the night before the exam, try studying for 1 hour each week for a couple of months leading up to your exam. You can find some better ways to study here: http://www.thebestcolleges.org/17-scientifically-proven-ways-to-study-better-this-year/

Bring Together Career and Passion: Three Ways To Boost Your Job Prospects

As the saying goes, choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. We spend a huge part of our days and our lives in general working, and so to be truly happy you absolutely have to find out that you enjoy. Whether you’re a young person at the start of their career or are later in life looking to make a change, find your passion and build upon it. Here are three ways you can boost your prospects and snag a job that leaves you happy financially and emotionally.

Improve Your Education

Education is one of the best ways you can improve your career prospects. If you’re up against another candidate for a role and the only main difference is one of you has a better education, this is the person an employer will pick. Boosting your education will also mean that you can apply for higher paid and better jobs that simply wouldn’t be accessible to you any other way. Higher education such as college or university will provide you with the qualifications you need to get an academic job. From there you could work your way up or continue your studies with a Master’s degree, doctorate or PhD to specialise in your field of study.

Go on a Training Course

Another way you can gain the necessary skills and experience you need and improve your career prospect is to go on training courses. This could be something offered to you by your employer or something you look into yourself. But either way, it’s a chance to add something valuable to your cv, improve your skills and experience and network too. It could be a specialist course in the field you want to study in, for example health workers could get their advanced cardiovascular life support known as a acls certification. Or something more general that would work for all roles such as working as a team or health and safety.

Do Some Voluntary Work

The problem when you’re new to a career is that employers will usually require some kind of experience. But if you’ve never had a job like this before, how do you get experience in the first place. There’s one fantastic way to do this, and that’s with voluntary work. Not only does this show an employer that you’re prepared to work hard and do what you can to get the job you want, but it’s a useful way to gain skills and experience. Psychology students could volunteer with the police the prison system or the courts to gain the experience they need for an academic job when leaving university. Nursing graduates could volunteer at a hospital, clinic or care home. Find out what kind of skills and experience will be required in the role you eventually want and work on building these up now. You will put yourself in the best position for a job and stand out above other candidates.

Chit Chat with Singer Sammi Rae Murciano

Written by:  Jill Sheets
16-year-old Singer/Song writer, Sammi Rae’s career, is taking off.  I can see this talented, Long Island, New York native, ending up with a long and amazing career. Continue reading on about her and her music, her influences and what advice she would give teens.  Don’t for to keep an eye on her as her career grows.

R: Tell us about yourself and how you got into the music business?

S: Hi my name is Sammi Rae Murciano, I am a 16-year-old singer / songwriter from Long Island, NY. I always loved to sing. I was in chorus and had a solo. Being in front of an audience and performing, was an amazing feeling. I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

R: Tell us about your song “Reflection.”

S:  Reflection is a very meaningful song that I wrote that looks back at my own personal life experiences. This song is about how I was bullied and all of the hardships I faced, but as a result, I overcame it and became stronger.

R: What current music are you working on music wise?  What about cover videos?

S: My single Reflection is out now on iTunes and Spotify. Also, I have two new original songs that are also a part of my EP that I will be releasing in the fall. I will also be releasing music videos for my new original songs. I recently released a cover and music video for Martin Garrix and Dua Lipa’s song Scared To Be Lonely which is on YouTube.

R: How do you come up with the ideas for the videos?

S: The way I come up with the ideas for my videos are by really connecting it with the song’s lyrics so that it can portray the message in the song.

R: I read that you also write your music.  What is the writing process?  Do you start with the words and how do you come up with the ideas for the songs?

S: When writing an original song, I think about the concept and meaning of the song. Sometimes it’s just in the moment and I write thoughts in my journal which I then turn into a song. A lot of my songs are based on my personal life experiences. They mean so much to me because I am able to express my feelings in a song and help others through difficult times with the message that these songs are portraying.

R: Do you have any up and coming plans on recording an album or EP?

S: I have my single “Reflection” out now on iTunes and Spotify. Along with that, I have an EP coming out this fall. This EP will show people a very difficult time in my life that I overcame. I want this EP to inspire others and help them through difficult times in their life.

She is always there for me and I’m so lucky to have her in my life and know that I always have someone by my side. She has taught me so much but most importantly to never give up on my dreams. My musical influences are Beyoncé, Demi Lovato, James Arthur, Justin Bieber, Adele and many more.

R: What are five things you cannot live without?

S: Five things I can’t live without are my incredible family, my amazing dog Ziggy, music, singing, and my computer.

R: What are five things people may not know about you?

S: Five things people may not know about me would be that my name is Samantha Rachel but I go by Sammi Rae, I play basketball, I have two brothers, I performed at Foxwoods and it was an amazing experience, and I have a scar on my left arm.

R: It is not easy being a teenager today.  What advice would you give them in general?

S: Some advice I would give teenagers is to live your life to the fullest. Never let anyone bring you down or tell you that you can’t do something. Always follow your heart and never give up on your dreams. If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything!

Where Can You Get The Lift You Need For Your Business?

Young entrepreneurs are the life and soul of emerging markets. This has been proven with the meteoric rise of e-commerce, solely brought to the forefront of international economies by the millennial generation. The fundamentals of the successful business are consistency, and so far millennials have shown themselves to be one of the hardest working business people ever. There is no such thing as a weekend or a late night anymore, purely just another day at the office. When you work so hard, there should be a way you can reach out and show the world that you’re worthy enough to get the right amount of investment. It’s’ significantly important that you achieve this because sooner or later, your business will need to expand or perhaps take a risk on releasing a new product. The market itself shifts a lot and trends come in and out of fashion. So what routes do you have in order to get your business off the ground?

Business exhibitions

Business expos are some of the best events to go to as a young entrepreneur. Here you’ll meet all kinds of people from all the industries and sectors of business from around the world. You’ll be showcasing your business plan, and highlighting the relevant graphs and evidence that display your growth and revenue margins. You simply don’t know who you’re going to meet, and virtually anyone who you bump into could be your ticket to a brighter future. Other businesses will be there, and you should use this time to mingle and form networks. As you’re young and new to the world of business, building lines of communication with businesses and companies in industries that might not specifically be yours, but somehow connect, will provide useful down the line.

Get an eagle-eyed vision

Never allow yourself to think you can do it because some lines of expertise are simply too complex to understand totally. This is where analysts and private equity investors like Chris Pivik come in. It’s their passion to analyze certain markets, and give you the best options and advice about where you should invest your money. This is an eagle-eyed vision that puts you right in the center of your investment and financial plan. As a business, you need a safety net, because the global economy is always going to be through ebbs and flows. Some might say you need a healthy amount of investors to prop you up should disaster strike. However, this means you’re not independent and rely on others who may also have a stake in your company. Analysts will give you the option, to go it alone, and be totally self-reliant by making smart investments into other sectors, industries, businesses, and banks.

These two are simply the best routes any young entrepreneur can go down to find the funds they need to expand their business. Sometimes it’s great to have investors, and or other businesses that will give you money in return for an increased profit. But, with the expertise of analysts and experts in private equity investments, going it alone and reaping all the rewards is simply a chance too attractive to miss.

Fabulous Careers For Girls Who Love Cars

There’s a sense in the West that we should do jobs that we’re good at, not necessarily that we love. Usually, this is because of the idea that we have to trade off enjoyment for money. But ask anybody who has been successful in their lives and their careers, and they’ll tell you that the real formula for success is actually a bit of both. You need both passion and ability to succeed in a given realm.

The reasons for this come down to how our brains work. To get really good at something, we need a compelling reason. Not just anybody can pick up a tennis racquet one day and then show up on Wimbledon’s center court five years later and win a match. It takes genuine desire to get good at something – a real, fundamental driver of motivation and passion.

For many people, that passion is in cars. What’s more, by developing that passion, you can have a great career and make a lot of money, even in sectors traditionally associated with low pay. Here’s how to combine your passion for cars with a way to make money.

Car Salesperson

When it comes to sleaze, the role of car salesperson is allegedly the ultimate. But the role has changed dramatically over the last few years. Thanks to evolving strategies at head office at many car companies, individual sales people are increasingly being instructed not to be pushy, but to be educators instead.

For women who love cars, that’s great news. Not only is the profession gaining more respect, but it also gives you the opportunity to become a sort of “professor of cars,” giving you the chance to learn everything there is to know about the latest models coming off the production line.

Mechanic

The job of a mechanic is to put cars back together. And the good news is that the career is becoming more interesting all the time. With constant advances in vehicle technology, components are changing all the time. Meaning that a mechanic’s career is one of lifelong learning. There are more details on mechanic career here. All you need to become a mechanic is certification to become a technician. Once you’ve got that, it’s just a question of looking out for opportunities at garages and service stations. Don’t want to work for anybody else? No problem. Many mechanics set up their own facilities to modify sports cars and hot rods.

Auto Journalist

Are you more of a cerebral woman than one who is hands on? If so, then you’ll probably want to get started as an auto journalist. Not only do you get to travel to the biggest car shows in the world, but you’ll also probably be asked to review cars yourself, test driving them on the open road. Auto journalists usually work for car blogs, big news sites or even car TV programs. For those who don’t want to work for a company, you can always start up your own YouTube channel and reach out to companies to supply you with cars to review and drive.

Do You Have What It Takes To Become An Actor?

A lot of people dream of a fantastic career on the stage or screen. But the reality is that remarkably few of these actually have a passion for acting. The lure of fame and fortune is a strong pull, of course, but there is a lot more to acting than the glamour and glitz of Hollywood -which is an impossible dream for 95% of all actors. But you don’t have to make it to the big time – acting jobs are everywhere. And with the right attitude, experience, and desire to put yourself forward, you can make a decent living out of the art if you put your mind to it. Here’s what it takes to start an acting career…

You have an advantage

As a young person, you are in a good place to start planning a career in acting. With your life in front of you, time is most definitely on your side – but you the sooner you dive into acting, the better. Join your school drama group, and if it’s offered as a subject, take it. Sign up to local independent groups, too – and don’t be afraid to go to auditions. The truth is that auditions can be a little scary, but if you start trying out for things now, things will get a lot easier very quickly.

The college route

You don’t have to study drama – but as thespruce.com point out, it will help. You will learn all kinds of important aspects of acting, as well as learning how to set a stage up, lots of theory, and a good mix of styles. You can actually find yourself at acting school – maybe you will learn you are better suited in musicals than comedies, for example?

You need experience

Experience is vital when it comes to acting – whether you are going to college or looking for paid work. You might hear about young children who have been plucked from obscurity and thrust into the spotlight, but these situations are incredibly rare. You are far better off doing as we suggested above, and getting as much experience as possible. There are plenty of services out there like AuditionsHq.com which list audition opportunities and casting calls. Your local papers will also display acting jobs on occasion. The most important thing, however, is to get involved with local drama groups – you will learn such a lot from more experienced actors, and don’t forget: you never know who might be watching!

Your proof

Although an audition will seal the deal for you, every actor needs proof to get that audition in the first place. You’ll need a showreel, showing off your range, skills, and experience. You might want to consider signing up with an agency, too – although please be careful to go with a reputable company. Agents have a lot of contacts and will be notified of upcoming jobs – and if you have star quality, they will back you to the hilt.

So, do you have what it takes to become an actor? Why not share your thoughts in the comments section below?
