Meet Dutch Fashion Designer Lecy Lau

My name is Lecy Lau, I am 19 years young, and I live in the Netherlands. For four years straight now I been running my own brand called LECY LAU. I hope other young girls get inspired by reading my story.

My whole life I have always been into fashion, but to actually start my own fashion brand…I never thought about that. It just happened! Even when I was young, I always liked to design my own clothes and turn a basic piece into something unique. When I was 15 years old, I designed a pair of denim jeans by myself. I received many compliments on the jeans and people really wanted to buy them from me, so I asked myself, why not? I made the jeans for a couple of people and sold them. Then even more people wanted to buy them, and before I knew it I had so many orders that even my mother needed to help me to make them because it was just too much to do it all by myself! Then I received the question from different people, asking if I had more clothes to sell. I really liked the feeling of seeing other people happy with something I made for them. From that moment I knew what I wanted to do. I was fifteen years old when I made my brand official and started spreading my clothes all over social media.

Even after four years, every day I’m learning new things and getting so much joy out of designing. There have been ups and down, both personally and professionally, but every difficult situation makes me a stronger person. I challenge myself to be the best version of me. There is one thing I really don’t like to do, and that is competing and judging others, because we all try to do our best and I just don’t think you will get any better by making conclusions about somebody because of what you see from the outside. I know a lot of people do this to each other, and most of the time it makes them bitter, jealous, and unfocused. I just like to mind my own business, really, and do what feels and is best for me. I just want to tell all girls, as long as you work hard and don’t give up, you will get where you want to be.

“You learn as you live, you only lose when you give up everything.’’ That is the quote that keeps me focused. I love to see and read motivational quotes and stories from other people; I learn from them and get inspired. I just think you can’t have enough of them!

I am thankful for getting up every single morning, and going to my own office to work on something that I love to do. I enjoy my work every day, and I hope that every single girl will one day get her dream job, too. It doesn’t matter if it is for yourself or for a CEO, the only thing that matters is that you have fun with what you do, something that is really your passion. Stay true to yourself and don’t settle for anything less. No matter what you have been through, or what you are going through right now, you deserve the best.

Lots of love,

Lecy Lau

Chit Chatting with Anouk Slootmans

Written by:  Jill Sheets

Picture 8Recently I had the honor of interviewing singer Anouk. Continue to read on and learn more about this 18 year old singer, her music and who she would like to tour with.

R: Tell us about yourself?

A:  My name is Anouk Slootmans. I’m 18 years old and I live in the Netherlands in Europe. I live with my parents and my two sisters. I’m in my first year of college.

R:  Tell us about your songs “Behind a Smile, Rise Above and ’24/7′.”

A:  ‘Behind a Smile’ is about hiding struggles behind a smile. ‘24/7’ is about falling in love with someone. ‘Rise Above’ is about rising above dark times. I wrote the lyrics and made the melody myself. The instrumental is made by a producer.

R:  Your songs have been in ITunes charts and has been played on radio/tv.  What was it like having your music in the charts?

A:  I never expected my music to be in the charts. Especially the ITunes charts, was a big surprise. I’m happy that people like it.

R:  If you could tour with anyone in the world, who would it be?

A:  Definitely Demi Lovato. I’m a huge fan of her. She’s such an amazing artist with an amazing personality. She’s so inspiring as well. It will never happen but touring with her would be an incredible experience.

R:  You just got done touring in the USA. Do you have any more planning on any more up and coming tours?

A:  I’m not touring. I do have some performances coming up.

Picture 9R: Where can people get your music?

A:  My music is available in several stores like ITunes, Playstore, Amazon.com etc. You can also check some of my music out on Youtube, Spotify etc.

R:  You are also an actress.  Tell us about any movies or tv shows you have done?  Also, do you have any up and coming projects?

A:  I’ve been doing several series, movies, commercials, short films etc. I loved every single project I did. Some more than others, but I enjoyed every single one. Acting is just something I’m really passionate about. I might have some things coming up in acting, but unfortunately I can’t tell you that much about it. Generally I’m not very busy at the moment with acting, singing, dancing etc. because I just started at a new school so I want to focus on my school as well.

R:  If you could remake a movie or TV show, which one would you want to remake?  What character would you been and who would you want to play opposite of you?

A:  I like this question a lot. I would love to be a part of movies like: Harry Potter (the female version of Harry Potter), The Hunger Games (Katniss Everdeen), Divergent (Beatrice Prior), Twilight (Bella Swan), The Book Thief (Liesel Meminger), The Fault In Our Stars (Hazel Grace Lancaster) etc. The way these movies have been made is incredible. To be able to experience this as an actress is the dream.

R:  You are also a dancer.  What type of dance do you prefer to do?

A:  I like several styles but I prefer hiphop and lyrical.

R:  It is not easy being a teenager.  What advice would you give them in general?

A:  Be yourself! When you are yourself, you’re the most beautiful person you can be. You never have to be different because others want you to. You have the right to love what you love, to wear what you want to wear etc. Most important is that you do what makes you happy. You are beautiful the way you are. Follow your dreams as well. If you really want something go for it and learn from every experience you get and most important: enjoy! Next to that.. If you go through something / if you’re struggling with something: Keep your head up! Don’t let anything bring you down. By losing battles you learn how to win the war because stars can’t shine without darkness. Talk about it, try to think positive and never give up. You will become a stronger person and will look back with a smile on your face. You can rise above it.

picture 5R:  What are five things people may not know about you?

A:

  1. Blue is my favorite color
  2. I cried very hard when I met Demi Lovato
  3. My room is square
  4. I would like to move to California
  5. The battery of my phone is not working properly

R: Other than this one, what is the strangest question you have been asked?

A:  There have been many times I got a question and I was like: What?!! But I can’t remember a specific one at the moment. Oops so bad (laughs).

Picture 1R: What is a sweet thing a fan did to you?

A:  There were some fans who came up to me with arts & crafts they made for me. I thought that was very sweet.

R:  Are you on any social networking sites?  If so, which ones and what are their addresses?  What about an official website/ and or youtube page?
