You find them on your carpet weeks later when they catch your eye- a thin, black, almost invisible line.

One minute you can’t seem to find one; the next, you have an overflow collected from purses, drawers and pockets.

Oh yes- they’re the classic but never-failing bobby pins.

Sure, they’re easy to lose- but most would agree they can hold your hair up and style it like many things can’t! They don’t break like your claw clips and hair ties- and they always seem to hold those flyaways in place. Whether you’ve got curly, straight or wavy hair, bobbies are a winner!

So how can you use these ingenious clips? (We would love to know who invented them, by the way.) Here are some simple ways to use them in your everyday hairstyles:

Have bangs? What do you do when your bangs lose their shape and they’re in need of a SERIOUS cut long before the rest of your hair? Clip them back with two crossed bobby pins! Gather them up and clip them to the top center or slightly to the side; bunch them for a more volumizing look instead of keeping them flat against your head.

Use them to create a gorgeous half-up, half-down look with either straight or curly hair. Pull the top layers/strands to the back of your head and secure them with the pins. You can even try gathering them to the side or to a lower corner of your head to create a more classy, evening look. If you curl it, you’ve got cascading curls gathering at your neck and down your back (if you’ve got longer hair).

You can even create a beautiful ponytail look down one side of your head. (Kind of like a Kate Winslet look, minus the braided/knotted appearance in Titanic). As you gather the strands, pull them to one side of your head. Pull the ones closer to the bottom up at an angle so they seem part of the pony.

Use them to make cloth headbands stay in place or bring up those extra strands off your neck if you’ve got hair too short for a ponytail.

There are SO many things you can do with this simple little clip! Try something slightly different, and you can sometimes create a totally different look!

What are your ideas?
